Shared Collective Heritage (SCH) is a project funded by National Lottery Heritage Fund, Aberdeen City Council and the Rayne Foundation.
SCH will preserve and celebrate artistic heritage that connects people and place in the North East of Scotland. Our aim is to ensure the artworks in the GHAT Art Collection bring to life the heritage of the NE of Scotland and that enjoyment of local history, heritage and art are part of a daily experience in our venues. We will also tell the story of the artists and places in the collection and how and why the artwork was bought or commissioned.
Our main aim is to bring the GHAT collection to a wider audience and to show how the art and the artists help us understand the history and heritage of the NE of Scotland and add to the collective knowledge of the Grampian area. We want everyone who uses the hospital to feel they have a connection to the art in the hospitals and a positive experience, whatever their reason for being there
Working closely with a local writer, Shane Strachan, and our heritage and archive partners, we will bring the collection to life through a series of events, performances, films, exhibitions, talks, walks and workshops to create experiences for patients, visitors, staff and other hospital users.
These partners are: Aberdeen City/Shire Archives: the University of Aberdeen Public Engagement with research team, Aberdeen Journals archive, NHS Grampian Archives and Aberdeen City Libraries Local Studies team.
In addition, we will make the collection more accessible to the public by, in the long term, ensuring more effective conservation of the works, and widening public access by having much of the collection online.
