‘Asaro Mud Men tribe. From the Eastern Highland Province of Papua New Guinea. Legend has it the Asaro people were defeated by an enemy tribe and forced to flee into the Asaro River. Where they encountered a spirit who gave them eyes to kill. The enemy tribe saw the Asaro people rise from the muddy banks of the river covered in mud and thought they were evil spirits, so the enemy tribe fled in fear and the legend was born.’
