Jane Hyslop studied painting at Edinburgh College of Art. She is fascinated by the decline of man-made sites and the subsequent repopulation of the space by flora. As industries fail, such as mining, these areas become derelict, yet often the land can become rejuvenated by development of wildlife and Hyslop aims to document this transformation. The undercurrent through her practice is the complex relationship between human activity and nature’s resilience.
The artist’s work is influenced by the tradition of botanical illustration and adopts these ideas in a contemporary way, often utilising the mode of the artists’ book.
She exhibits widely in both solo and group exhibitions, most recently being an invited artist for Visual Arts Scotland 2015.
