The GHAT Collection team wants to signpost a couple of exhibitions displaying artwork from the Northeast of Scotland.
The McManus Art Gallery & Museum in the centre of Dundee has two current exhibitions celebrating work from their own Collection. There is some overlap between our Collection and theirs – so this is a great opportunity to see some of the ‘GHAT Collection’ outside of the hospital.
“Impressed: Twentieth Century Artist Prints from Dundee’s Collection” is nearing the end of its run. It highlights Scotland’s key role in the revival of artist printmaking during the second half of the twentieth century.
With Peacock Print Workshop producing a quantity of these artworks, there’s great representation from Aberdeenshire based artists. There are some prints of which GHAT has its own editions, which are on display around NHS Grampian.
On display are also some familiar names, including John Houston and Reinhard Behrens, as well as an opportunity to see John McLean’s full Granite Suite in one place (our own Granite Suite series is on display in multiple locations from Elgin to Aberdeen).
The exhibition closes at the end of April.
Also at the McManus is “A Weather Eye”, an exhibition of art inspired by the weather. The show includes work by more than 30 artists who have addressed the changeable Scottish weather through their practices. Another John Houston, “Sunset over Moorland” – a large painting depicting a flaming sunset – steals the show, opposite William Cadenhead’s “New Snow, Catlaw”. GHAT’s own Cadenhead drawings can be found on display across ARI.
A Weather Eye is open until the 11th of May this year.
