My Pictorial Journey | Hugh Rowson

My Pictorial Journey | Hugh Rowson

13 February – 13 May 2018

Hugh Rowson seeks to bring life to inanimate objects in a variety of mediums. Personal poems are juxtaposed to create watercolour fluidity. The medium of pen and ink facilitates a depiction of detail in architectural subjects. Hugh transfers images from thumbnail sketches to completed paintings.. He also creates special ambiguity with the use of strong, meaningful, pattern and decoration as common themes in a symbolic language.

The works in this exhibition are a mix of paintings drawings, relief prints and lithographs. They are inspired by the places Hugh has travelled to over the years, especially with his children. The exhibition is dedicated to Hugh’s grandparents, William and Lizzie Rowson who worked in the Tivoli Theatre as a musician and costume dresser

Hugh graduated for Gray’s School of Art in 1969, and then went into teaching and community education in Aberdeen until the early 1980’s. He has been full time practicing artist for over 30 years now. Hugh is a member the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour, Edinburgh and a Former Vice President of the Aberdeen Artists Society and has have exhibited widely throughout Scotland.
