Roberts trained in fine art as both a sculptor and printmaker, graduating from the Royal College of Art in 1978.  His body of work is quite eclectic, as a result of his ongoing work as a studio jeweller.  Design work for him also provides an interesting challenge, testing new processes and responding intuitively to the material.  In his work, including pieces commissioned by GHAT, iridescent colour is a prominent feature through use of metal leaf which responds to ambient light.
