Opening Wednesday 11th May, 6.30-8pm
The Small Gallery, Aberdeen Royal Infirmary

GHAT’s next exhibition in The Small Gallery, ARI is ‘Fading Light’ by Dundee based artist Ellis O’Connor.

The work in this exhibition is a response to the six months Ellis spent working in the North of Iceland throughout the dark winter in the remote town of Ólafsfjörður documenting the ever shifting landscapes found in the Arctic. It reflects on her experience in Iceland and the presence of the landscapes whilst also addressing the descriptive language of the land, the effects of climate change and the fading light which heightens the experience.

“My paintings serve as records of landscapes in flux, honouring the transition of them and inspiring our global community to take action for the future. By producing the art work I hope it will give people a chance to connect with the landscape and respect the nature that is so wild around us, to cultivate a deeper understanding and inspire others to make a difference.”

Ellis works in painting, printmaking and photography. She graduated in 2015 with an MA in Art and Humanities from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, and has been selected among ten artists worldwide to participate in an Arctic Circle Expedition this coming October.

‘Fading Light’ opens on Wednesday 11th May and runs to 24th June 2016
