b. 1962
Graduating from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in 1985, Summerton now teaches at the University of Dundee. As an artist, he has exhibited internationally in both solo and group exhibitions. His creative practice has expanded and diversified from painting to installation, sound art, prints, objects and photography. Collaboration has also become a significant factor in his work.
The artist is fascinated by nature, particularly its representation in illustration and dioramas. Often containing elements of mystery and humour, Summerton’s work suggests a narrative that is never fully disclosed.
