In June, our Collection team welcomed conservators Egan, Matthews & Rose into the stores to assess some of our artworks.

In a hospital setting, artworks may go through different handling and hanging procedures than artworks in traditional museum and gallery venues. Due to the hustle and bustle of the healthcare setting, damage to work is sometimes difficult to avoid.

During their visit, Gail and Henry showed us how to spot damage, how it can be treated, and how to mitigate it. It was amazing to see how much detail goes into their work and the tools required to do it: from light umbrellas to cameras, UV examination lamps, brushes and everything in between.

It is important to us that we can get these works repaired and back into public spaces to be enjoyed by NHSG patients, staff and visitors.

Special thanks to Arts & Business Scotland and NLHF for granting us the funds to be able to take care of our collection more effectively!
