Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital
Winner of the 2005 Saltire Society Art and Craft in Architecture Award.
The new Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital was officially opened in October 2005 by her Majesty Queen Elizabeth.
A specific Arts Project Group was set up to oversee an ambitious public art programme for the hospital. Many people were involved in contributing ideas and helping to shape the arts project. Hospital staff and patients, the Young Advisors Group (children from schools in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire), GHAT, the design team and arts project managers, PACE have all contributed to developing and creating a hospital that is exciting, stimulating and accessible for children of all ages as well as parents, families and staff.
The project was made possible by Scottish Arts Council lottery funding, Aberdeen City Council, the ARCHIE Foundation Appeal and NHS Grampian. A wide range of work was commissioned from artists and designers and is now installed throughout the hospital.
