Lynsey Ewan’s work is concerned with the effects of light on colour, particularly the luminosity of colour when light is passed through plants. Her interests are dominated by intrigue in the natural world and environmental issues.
‘The paintings I produce are governed by intuition about light, colour and composition. The materials that I use (oils, pigment and canvas) reflect the natural aspect of my work.I feel that my paintings capture the essence of the vibrancy, resilience and energy of the Earth’s flora, eternalising a single moment of beauty. ‘
Lynsey uses photography as a means of collecting information that is then translated into painting. The painting is never an exact duplicate of the photograph, but a rather more defined image, where colours are enhanced and forms are modified to create a highly accomplished work of art that stretches far beyond its photographic roots.
Lynsey Ewan is a graduate of Duncan of Jordanstane College of Art who lives and works in Dundee. |
