| Anita’s fascination with the processes of memory and communication has led her to investigate the nature of dementia. Included in her exhibition of beautifully realised textual works is the installation ‘Thread of Life’ which explores her creative dialogues with the elderly and people with dementia in a care home. Following a similarly reflective theme, the collaboration between Winnie Hendry, a self taught poet and resident at Millbank House in Aberdeen, and artist Matt Edgar, imaginatively depicts their collective dreaming.
Anita’s text works for Thread of Life utilise a range of materials including silicone and cornflake wrappers along with traditional craft and needlework techniques. Based in Tayport, Fife, Anita was awarded a Master of Design, Duncan of Jordanstone School of Art, in 2005.
Winnie Hendry/Matt Edgar

Currently undertaking a Master of Visual Art at Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen, Matt met Winnie when he started working as a Residential Care worker at Millbank House. Their presentation for the Art Gallery utilises the pragmatic aesthetic of Teletext to voice the beauty of Winnie’s poetry and matt’s accompanying visual dialogue that includes mythical creatures such as the ‘Teletext Octopus’ as well as an ambiguously ascending aeroplane.
This exhibition crosses beautifully over the boundaries between art and the written word and exciting collaborations such as this make Word one of the most exciting festivals in the UK. |
