Volume - comfort
The Glasgow-based artist collective volume present a new body of work entitled comfort. Using a variety of materials and mediums, volume explore their own physical, emotional and psychological notions of comfort, and indeed discomfort.
The individual responses consider a wide range of variations on the theme: security, fear, happiness, protection, desires, location, health, warmth, love… The works evolved around the gallery space, with some pieces responding directly to the location, both spatially and conceptually. The show consists of photographic, sculptural, two-dimensional and installation pieces, some of which have been made collaboratively.
Formed in 2003, shortly after its six members graduated from Glasgow School of Art, volume include: Kate Jo, Russell McGovern, Celine McIlmunn, Betty Meyer, John O’Connell, Kate V Robertson and Barbara Wilson |
Lynn Love - Small Talk
Lynn Love, MAV graduate from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, presented the animation Small Talk.
Small Talk uses studies of human behaviour during interaction in a piece where character design is based upon the old ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’ cliché. The piece is a reflection of a natural human personality in an unlikely caricature that uncovers thoughts of superficiality and judgement in the minds of viewers. Interaction is a fundamental factor in overcoming false perceptions; therefore, the character interacts directly with you, his conversation partner and his audience.
